Literature is a special art form familiar to each of us. A person begins to read in early childhood, and with the help of books he opens his own special, unique world. Creative people who write poems, short stories, poems and other works help to make this world brighter and fill life with new, unknown sensations.

Among them are any children's writers who have presented the world of fairy tales and romance. This honorary list includes writers and poets from different countries, whose works have become real classics. Birthdays and anniversaries are the easiest and most wonderful occasion to thank them again for their work.

Daniel Defoe is a writer whose books were read by almost all of us. He had amazing talent and rich imagination, which made him a great creator, but, unfortunately, did not bring him wealth - he died in old age as an incredibly poor man.

At birth, the future English writer was named Daniel Fo. Defoe was ashamed of his origin, so he changed the name given at birth and ranked himself among the nobles. Defoe was born into the family of a meat merchant, who also owned his own candle factory. He received a church education and wanted to become a pastor, but in the end he decided not to connect his life with the church.

Defoe's first creations were religious verses. The writer took part in a failed rebellion against the English king.

After graduating, Defoe worked at a stocking wholesaler. Continuing to do business, he bought his own production of stockings, and then - a factory for the manufacture of bricks and tiles, but completely burned out. These business projects were followed by others, but all of them were doomed to failure. The writer is considered one of the first writers who became interested in the genre of the novel. He helped popularize him in his native country, and some researchers even consider him the ancestor of the work of English novelists. Defoe's work, which most people know only as the author of Robinson Crusoe, is very extensive and diverse he wrote more than 500 novels, pamphlets and journal articles (including on psychology and supernatural phenomena).

Daniel Defoe is considered the founder of economic journalism.

In the continuation of the novel about Robinson Crusoe, the protagonist travels to China and Russia.

Daniel Defoe was one of the most important politicians of his era - although officially he did not have a court position, the writer could influence the decisions of the king and the British government.

Defoe is called the founder of British intelligence. For one of the satirical pamphlets Defoe was sentenced to shame and imprisonment. Under arrest, he continued his creative work, writing Anthem to the pillory. A year later he was released, but on the condition that Defoe will fulfill the secret orders of the king.

The plot of Robinson Crusoe is based on a true story in the early 18th century, a sailor from Scotland quarreled with the captain and landed on an unknown island in the Pacific Ocean with a modest supply of weapons and provisions. He lived there for 4 years, until a Scot passing a ship passed.

Under the name of Charles Johnson, he published a large-scale work on the history of piracy. The first edition of Robinson Crusoe was published without the name of the author on the cover - Defoe was afraid that his fame as a scandalous publicist might alienate readers. The novel, whose author at that time was 59 years old, was waiting for huge success.

Defoe and his wife Mary had eight children.

The writer died in poverty in a London slum, where he had to escape from creditors. The landlady, who sheltered the sick old man, buried him at her own expense, and then sold the deceased's modest property to cover her expenses.
