Preservation of Cultural Heritage in Libraries

Rare and valuable handwritten and printed books, the pride of library funds, are objects of cultural heritage, book monuments. Libraries and librarians play a vital role in preserving cultural heritage. The challenges of today's world make the work of librarians all the more important as they are the preservers of the past and contributors to shaping the future.

On May 24, on the initiative of the Pavlodar regional universal scientific library named after S. Toraigyrov a regional online meeting "Preservation of Cultural Heritage in Libraries" was held with the library specialists from the East Kazakhstan, Turkistan and Abay regions.

In the course of the meeting the participants of the library industry exchanged opinions on the stated topic, discussed the issues of increasing the role of libraries in preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the country in the context of development of information technology, as well as the importance of digitization of book monuments of outstanding spiritual and material value and their popularization among the wide population.

It was decided to continue cooperation and collaboration on the preservation and study of monuments and objects of cultural heritage. The participants of the meeting were unanimous in their opinion that the most important direction and the most effective way to preserve the cultural heritage is broad cultural and educational activities among the public, cultural workers and the younger generation.
