March 19 - Day of Wisdom and Knowledge
The oral folk art of the Kazakhs is represented by heroic legends, lyric-epic poems, traditions, legends created mainly on the basis of historical events.
They are deeply patriotic in their content, poetic in presentation, imbued with a call for unity, fortitude, perseverance in the name of achieving the goal.
They reflect the fate of the people, their wisdom, and attitude to the world. Kazakh folklore is unique; it includes over forty genre varieties, a significant part of which is characteristic only of Kazakh oral folk art. It is inexhaustible: there are not only heroic legends, lyric-epic poems, traditions, legends, ditties, love and ceremonial songs, philosophical thoughts, initiations, instructive tales, but also witty sayings, riddles, aphorisms, proverbs, farewell, lullabies and funeral tunes, conspiracies and spells that give a complete picture of the people's being, the people's understanding of the Kazakhs.
