Information hour “Chernobyl is a reality. Chernobyl is pain"
On April 21, students of a mechanical engineering college took part in an information hour “Chernobyl is a reality. Chernobyl is a pain”. The event was aimed at acquainting students with one of the most terrible man-made tragedies of the 20th century - the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine - as about the largest disaster in the history of the peaceful atom. Due to the accident, about 5 million hectares of land were withdrawn from agricultural use, a 30-kilometer exclusion zone was created around the station, and hundreds of small settlements were buried. The consequences of the accident for human health were as following - an increase in the number of cancer patients, mental disorders, etc. Students were deeply touched by the stories in books about the heroism and courage of power plant employees, firefighters, helicopter pilots, military personnel - people who took part in the liquidation of the consequences of the disaster. The feat accomplished by the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident will never be forgotten.
