Exhibition Opening: «The Consequences of Dark Years»
On May 30th, an exhibition titled «The Consequences of Dark Years» was opened at the Regional Library. The exhibition is dedicated to the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repression, which has been annually observed in Kazakhstan on May 31st since 1997.
The mass repressions of the Stalinist era played a significant role in the country's history. The people of Kazakhstan carefully preserve the memory of millions of compatriots who suffered from political repression. The times of terror are extensively covered in history textbooks, books are published on this topic, films are made, and memorial steles are installed in cities and villages throughout the country.
All of this is crucial for society to realize the value of peace and to never allow the recurrence of such events. The exhibition covers several sections, including books about political repression, memoirs of participants in tragic events, reports from archivists, collections on forced resettlement (deportation) to Kazakhstan, the Holodomor, and essays on repressed fellow citizens from Pavlodar. The exhibition also features books by repressed jubilee writers such as Shakarim K., Dosmukhameduly Kh., and Zhumabayev M.
The exhibition opening was attended by students from the High College of Electronics and Communications.
