Pavlodar Spelling Bee 2020

February 8th, 35 representatives of local colleges and universities gathered to identify the best Pavlodar speller at American Corner Pavlodar. The jury comprised of native speakers and US grant program alumni. The pronouncer was Dang Duong, Fulbright English Language Assistant and judges were Bakhyt Amirova, TEA alumnus, teacher of Nazarbayev Intellectual School, Yelena Zagorulina, FLEX alumnus, Adam Daurbekov, teacher of Pavlodar State Pedagogical University.

The first round winnowed out 26 contestants but the majority demonstrated their serious commitment. The next 4 rounds left only 8 toughest spellers remaining in line and they moved on to the final. Nobody wanted to leave so soon and all of the finalists spelled the words correctly. However, after a long battle, the title of Pavlodar Best Speller went to Aidana Rakhmetova, a senior student of Pedagogical High College named after B.Akhmetov. Aksunkar Ateikhan from Pavlodar State Pedagogical University won second place and the 3rd runner up was Ilya Chegodaev, a second-year student of Pavlodar High College of Management. The champion speller received a certificate of 30000 tenge as well as 20000 tenge certificates for runners up. Besides, all the participants got certificates for participation and unforgettable experience.

The Spelling Bee is a unique chance to evaluate one's level of English, define the points of further development and meet like-minded people who share a common interest in the English language and American culture.
