Shezhire kuni - Memorial Day
March 15 - Shezhіre kunі - a day of remembrance. On this day, it is supposed to pay special attention to the study of the family tree, to show respect for parents and older relatives. It is believed that knowledge of Shezhire (or one’s ancestors to the seventh generation) is mandatory for every Kazakh.
Shezhire (Kaz. Shezhіre) - a genealogical table among Kazakhs and Kipchak peoples. As a rule, it is a written or oral listing of ancestors in a direct male line. A synonymous version of shezhire - Jeti-Ata (lit. translation from Kazakh - seven grandfathers) is also common. The attitude of Kazakhs to Shezhira is sacred. Many modern Kazakhs are trying to restore their roots and are very seriously studying their genealogy. At one time, Mashkhur Zhusup Kopeyev, Shakarim Kudaiberdiyev, and others devoted their works to the study of the Kazakh family tree.
For those who are interested in their family tree, the Regional Library named after S. Toraigyrov offers publications reflecting the annals of the Turkic peoples and individual clans (Basenteyin, Uak, Kanzhigaly, etc.).
